CANDHy shares findings on the hydrogen compatibility of non-steel metallic materials with the Ready4H2 project

CANDHy shared last Tuesday, September 29th, the main updates of the project with Ready4H2 , a European initiative that seeks to transform local networks to make them suitable for hydrogen supply. Lidia Martínez Izquierdo, R&D Coordinator at Aragon Hydrogen Foundation, outlined CANDHy’s efforts to discover the level of readiness of current non-steel metallic materials in current gas grids to hydrogen exposure.

The presentation began with an overview of CANDHy’s objectives and the work carried out over the course of the project’s nearly three years. Next, the results of the CANDHy Round Robin Test (RRT) were detailed.

Martínez explained the main aspects of the campaign: the methodology, the laboratories where the tests were conducted, the conditions, the selected materials, and the tests involved. Next, the main conclusions were presented, pending the completion of the final tests. To learn more about the results, please follow this link.

The final results will be used to create a semi-empirical model to predict material behaviour in the presence of H₂ based on their microstructure and to propose pre-normative guidelines for testing materials with H₂.

This was followed by a discussion during which Ready4H2 partners asked more detailed questions about the project’s results. This exchange of knowledge demonstrates CANDHy’s strong alignment with other projects with similar goals and, above all, the high quality of the conclusions drawn.
