The first testing campaign of CANDHy is already yielding initial results. The test consists of a Round Robin Test where 4 independent R&D testing platforms are involved: FHA, NATRAN, TECNALIA and RINA.
Both dynamic and static loading tests are being carried out to gray and ductile cast iron new and vintage materials from the natural gas grid to investigate their compatibility with hydrogen.
The results obtained will be used to develop models for the prediction of hydrogen embrittlement mechanisms, to propose guidelines to support future standardization related with the testing and qualification of materials of the distribution network, as well as to design and develop a technical database for hydrogen compatibility of metals.
The CANDHy project is progressing well, and the partners are working to maximise results in order to better predict the behaviour of these materials under hydrogen conditions.
